– Signed patent transfer agreement with Korea University for a “Learning Task System and Method for Foreign Language Learners”
– The system consists of five components that diagnose individual cognitive abilities and provide tailored tasks and feedback
– To be applied to Lemonade CIC’s foreign language education content, including Light Workbook and FastOne, focusing on enhancing R&D

March 22, 2022 – Lemonade, a Corporate-Incubated Company (CIC) of Day1 Company, announced today that it has acquired a foreign language learning technology patent from Korea University’s Industry-Academy Cooperation Foundation.

Lemonade CIC, which handles Day1 Company’s foreign language education business, has been experiencing rapid growth, securing approximately 380,000 users through services such as Light Workbook (one book per week, 10 minutes a day) and FastOne (1:1 English tutoring). To further enhance learning, Lemonade plans to implement a learning management system that dynamically adjusts learning tasks based on individual skill levels.

The collaboration with Korea University is part of this plan. The patent, titled “Learning Task System and Method for Foreign Language Learners,” focuses on diagnosing cognitive abilities and providing tailored tasks and feedback. The system manages the entire foreign language learning process through brain science.

This patent consists of five systems designed to provide customized learning solutions based on neuroscience. It includes a Learning Task Database, which stores tasks for each learner, a Feedback Module that analyzes and evaluates tasks, and a Task Completion Ratio Module that sets personalized learning patterns based on feedback.

Other components include a Task Progress Database, where learning progress and feedback are stored, and a Learning Task Progress Module, which controls the overall learning process based on individual abilities. These five systems, grounded in cognitive neuroscience, aim to help learners absorb foreign languages naturally, much like a first language, while offering tailored curricula for efficient learning.

Once the patent is commercialized, learners using Lemonade’s educational services such as Light Workbook, WannaSpeak, and FastOne will receive personalized learning tasks and methods, along with optimized learning plans tailored to their level. This will create synergy with Lemonade’s content, which integrates writing, listening, and speaking, resulting in enhanced learning outcomes.

In November of last year, Lemonade CIC also launched the Light Workbook app to improve learning convenience for its users. The app allows users to access online lectures and audiobook content, as well as a “Learning Questions” category for quick feedback, making learning management more efficient.

Tina Tsu, CEO of Lemonade CIC, said, “We are strengthening our R&D capabilities to develop foreign language learning content that is both engaging and consistent. Starting with this patent, we aim to move beyond standardized learning and offer personalized education services tailored to each learner’s skill level and lifestyle, contributing even more to their foreign language proficiency.”
