The Key Theme of Corporate Education in 2021: “Digital Transformation”

September 1, 2021 – As the COVID-19 pandemic has elevated “digital capabilities” to a core competitive advantage for companies, domestic firms are ramping up “Digital Transformation” (DT) education to enhance their employees’ professional skills.

FastCampus, a subsidiary company (CIC) of the leading adult education content company Day1Company (formerly FastCampus, CEO Kangmin Lee), released its “Corporate Education Enrollment Trends for H1 2021” report based on its internal corporate education data. FastCampus, which specializes in upskilling professionals through practical training, operates a B2B education division offering corporate training for employees from major companies, including Samsung, Hyundai Mobis, LG Electronics, CJ CheilJedang, and KB Kookmin Card.

According to FastCampus, the most in-demand corporate education courses in the first half of 2021 were in “programming” and “data science,” key skills for digital transformation. Specific popular courses included the Python Web Development All-in-One Package, Machine Learning and Data Analysis A-Z All-in-One Package, Python Data Analysis for Professionals All-in-One Package, Automating 6 Months of Work in One Day All-in-One Package, and SQL & Database for Everyone All-in-One Package. This reflects the growing need for specialized digital skills training, as more companies focus on digital transformation and employees show increasing interest in these fields.

Course participants tended to take classes on Mondays and Tuesdays, with peak study hours occurring between 8–10 AM and 1–2 PM. Additionally, a significant number of employees took courses after work, between 8–10 PM.

When asked why they were implementing DT education, corporate training managers cited reasons such as “fostering employees’ digital literacy and entrepreneurial mindset,” “developing AI talent on the ground,” and “enhancing corporate analysis and digital marketing skills.”

FastCampus CIC CEO Hae-dong Shin stated, “With rising demand for corporate digital transformation education, the number of client companies increased by 158% in 2020 compared to 2019, and education inquiries grew by 132%. More and more companies are turning to FastCampus for their training needs.” He added, “Moving forward, we plan to enhance our existing courses, expand into areas such as organizational culture and collaboration to support digital transformation, and incorporate additional edtech features to optimize the learning experience.”

FastCampus provides corporate education through two primary models: custom-designed curricula tailored to the needs of each company and an online subscription service that allows employees to access a variety of courses. Its education fields include programming, data science, marketing, finance, video and design, essential business skills, foreign languages, and mandatory legal education. Since its launch in 2016, FastCampus has shown continuous growth, with a 277% increase in sales in the first half of this year compared to the same period last year.
